A Mauritian illegal immigrant who made Harrow her home is behind bars after applying for a job using a fake passport.

Indranee Kasoo, 56, who lived in Courtney Avenue, Harrow, was jailed for 11 months on Tuesday.

She had overstayed her visitor’s visa and was caught when officers from the West London Immigration Enforcement team conducted an operation at her home address, after it emerged she had applied for a job using a false French passport.

Assistant director Chris Edwards, head of the West London Immigration Enforcement team, said:

This case shows a deliberate and determined attempt to undermine the UK’s immigration rules. Those who try to abuse the system by using forged and counterfeit documents to find work should know that they will be found and brought to justice.

Kasoo was arrested on February 9 this year, after two counterfeit French passports were found in a search of her Harrow home.

Kasoo used a false passport to apply for a job.

Arrangements were made for her to leave the UK voluntarily, but when she failed to do so, she was detained by Immigration Enforcement officers when she reported to them on September 4.

When later interviewed under caution, she admitted purchasing and using the documents to obtain employment in the UK.

Kasoo was charged with seven offences, three relating to possession of false documents with improper intent and four relating to fraud by false representations.

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on the same day.
